Food transport by road and the necessary permits
The national and international transport of foodstuffs is regulated by legal requirements. Their purpose is to eliminate contamination, poisoning and the delivery of stale food to customers. Any company transporting plant products, fruit or animal products must comply with the regulations of the country or zone (e.g. Schengen) in question.
The most important regulations and standards include:
- ISO 22000 – is the international standard for food safety management, which specifies requirements for food safety management systems in organisations. The standard aims to help organisations identify and control food safety hazards, improve operational efficiency and provide consumers with food that is safe to eat;
- HACCP, or Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points – the primary objective of HACCP is to ensure that food products are safe for consumers by identifying critical control points (CCPs) at which food safety risks can be effectively controlled or reduced to an acceptable level;
- IFS Food certificate – confirming food safety;
- BIO Certificate – supply chain certification necessary for producers of BIO-certified products.
