Soft fruit and transport requirements
Soft fruit is extremely popular on the Polish and international markets. The problem with their availability in different parts of the world is their narrow harvest time and vulnerability to damage. This makes the storage and transport of soft fruit so demanding.
Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and apricots are particularly delicate and susceptible to mechanical damage and changes in temperature and humidity. In order to deliver the highest quality crops to consumers, we carry out transport at:
- optimal temperature – this is one of the most important factors affecting the quality of soft fruit. They should usually be transported at low temperatures, close to 0°C (32°F), to slow down ripening processes and maintain freshness. We avoid sudden changes in temperature, which can lead to moisture condensation on the fruit and cause spoilage;
- appropriate packaging – soft fruit requires packaging that is delicate and shallow, but durable enough to effectively separate the fruit and not cause crushing. They must also have ventilation holes;
- separation from ethylene-producing products – soft fruit surrounded by apples, tomatoes or avocados can further accelerate their ripening and development.
